How did I get here?

Most people in Risk Management didn’t specifically plan for this career. Instead, they were voluntold that they would be responsible for employee safety, or workers’ compensation, or emergency preparedness, or some sort of subset of Risk Management, and then it just sort of snowballs from there. Next thing you know, they are now responsible for all Risk Management. How did this happen?

Risk Management is a mix of insurance, HR, safety, litigation, finance and emergency preparedness. I’ve met a lot of people who are interested in transitioning into Risk Management, and they often ask what education they need and how they can prepare themselves for the field. The problem is that most of the formal education pathways and professional certification programs for Risk Management are both expensive and very, very, VERY dry.

In 2024, I started creating TikToks about Risk Management and insurance and posting them on LinkedIn. As an elder millennial, I leaned heavily on meme culture and humor to teach this subject, and it took off in a way I didn’t expect. Turns out that people actually like to have fun while they’re learning.

That’s why I created this site. To teach Risk Management the way I wish I learned it.

I have some suspicions about my true origin story as a Risk Management professional. You can watch it here.

This industry is an absolute adventure. I promise, you’ll never be bored, and if your stick with me, I’ll keep it interesting.
